Interview and Audition Update

Job aquired!

I had my interview at the theatre last night and despite horrible traffic causing me to be late (I allowed 30 minutes extra too!) I got offered the job. It's great, but only lasts two months then the job ends. Sad, but at least it is at one of the seven big theatre and I think I'll like it there. Loved working at Intiman. Oh did I mention I get free tickets? Well I do.

I plan on taking Lucia tommorrow night. Then my audition which is at 11:30 Sunday morning! This is a good weekend so far. If I get the show it'll be even better. Though it's been a while since I've gone on one. I'm rusty as I can be no doubt. Still, it's good for me to be going out again. And either way, I got a new job!

Theatre Audition!

Not only do I have a job interview at that theatre I mentioned but I also have an audition! Yeah I'm on a theatre roll my friends, a roll let me tell you.

I'll keep you guys updated on how both ventures turn out. Hopefully I'll get both, and the show pays! yeah a theatre job and an acting job that pays? STAMP OF APPROVAL IN RED.

Well while I anguish you can check out a friend of mine's site. Chad Kimball, one of my good friends from highschool is now a Broadway actor. I found out about this a few years back and was very unshocked.

Chad Kimball, best actor I know. Won best actor in every damn highschool musical he played the lead in, which was pretty much all of them and has a great singing voice. We were in alot of theatre classes together too. I'm extremely happy for him.

He now has his own clothing company.Ogear Clothing. Check it out for hip NY threads.

Stay tuned for interview and audition updates!

Theatre Job Interview

Yes! I have an interview at one of the big 7! That is, one of the seven major theatres here in Seattle. It's not acting but it does rock! I happen to love this theatre too.

It is only an interview but I'll let my readers know how it turns out, cause I know you come here to hear about my job interviews!

Seablogs

These interwebs sure have some great things in them don't they gang? Like today, I was surfing through Tom Green's blog as I like to do and I watched some Vlogs. Those are cool. Vlogs.

So I made a search for vlogs, then local vlogs. Haven't found any of those yet, however I did find Seablogs, a Seattle weblog portal. I have spent the last 20 minutes reading local blogs and I have to say it is a good time.

I wanted to start something like this a few months ago, when I was far less blog savvy! Seablog has probably been around since like 1979! If not, it still likely came before my idea and on finding it I am quite the enthusiastic supporter of it. Check it out.

If your visiting from Seablogs leave a comment! You could leave a comment about how stylish or horribly damn hideous and disgusting looking the sci-fi museum looks! Except that cool thing coming out of it. Like an alien. That thing is cool.

Anyway, check out the blog, where I'm not talking like Tom Green.

Nintendo A Capella

Now that Google Video is active it's got a growing number of awesome videos. And as pointed out by Boing Boing a search for Highschool will bring up some of the best stuff.

As a fan of the 80s and especially of the original Nintendo Entertainment System, I have to point my readers here for a must see perfomance by anyone who loves the old NES games. An a capella performance of some of our favorite games.

The Goonies and Astoria

I miss Astoria, the small fishing town in which the fictional Goondocks from the 80s classic Goonies was filmed. I was down there for the 20th Anniversary Celebration in June and had such a great time.

I watched the Goonies Vacation tonight and it REALLY made me miss that town. Check it out and see why. Especially if you're a fan of the Goonies, or gorgeous port towns.

More on Astoria here.

Puyallup Fair Review

As predicted the Puyallup Fair was awesome. We unexpectadly got free tickets from Lucia's boss and arrived at the fair about 4:00pm.

First thing was to get food. I ate at a place called The Mad Greek where I had a Polish Sausage, pepsi and a big ass basket of fries which they gave me for free. Once food was out of the way we hit the animal exhibits and had a great time looking at farm animals of all kinds.

We stopped in on the new Toonzville exhibit where I forced Lucia to watch the Let's Pretend Circus show. Which is a circus where they take kids from the audience, give them costumes to wear and give them simple directions like "When she points at you all you have to do is growl!".

The show was fun and had alot of audience participation (inlcuding oohing and ahhing clapping in a circle ("rounds of applause") and such. The kids were fun to watch and reminded me of the Make-A-Circus I was in as a kid.

After that we went through more animal exhibits then through the shops and hobby halls and into the crafts. It was a hell of alot of fun and I ended up getting a new baseball cap with pirate Jack Rackham's flag on the front. On the reverse it says Surrender the Booty. A typical pirate saying on just about every piece of pirate clothing out there. I love this hat!

After alot more walking and more exploring we ended up going home about 9:00pm. I had a great time as usual. I'll miss it until next year.

Puyallup Fair

The Puyallup Fair started last week and it is the one big event of the year I can not miss. If you live in Washington and have never been there, it is time.

The fair is less crowded then hippy laden Bumbershoot and more fun too. Past concerts have featured artists like Jewel, Huey Lewis and the News and Bill Cosby.

This year Kelly Clarkson was slated to play but the first two weeks of her tour have been cancelled due to bronchitis and a severe lung infection. However Hillary Duff is playing the 25th of September if you love the pop.

Other artists this year include ZZ Top, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Patti Labelle, Hoobastank, some known country singers, Comedian Paul Rodriguez and a host of others.

The Fair also features tons of animals and animal exhibits, rodeos, fair exhibits full sized rides including roller coasters and ferris wheels and free entertainment throughout the grounds.

I'll blog the event after we go on Tuesday. Love the Puyallup!

Rub A Dub Doggie

Rub A Dub Doggies are one of my most fondly remembered toys of the 80s. This was a waterproof plastic dog with terry cloth ears and a little horizontal lever at the back of the collar. The lever could be switched right and left quickly making the dogs (usually sudsy) ears splash all over the place like a real dog.

Kids might not like them today because: Their value as a toy came mostly from Mr Bubble bubble baths, which are mostly a forgotten past time.

Kids today might like it because: The universal appeal of dogs is still in tact and a young child might enjoy this cute plastic pup. Especially if it's flapping soap bubbles all over the bathroom.

My Pet Monster

Finally! The newest Toys Of Our Lives! This week is all about My Pet Monster!

Not only was this blue monster an awesome plush toy with orange break away handcuffs, it also had its own short lived cartoon on ABC in 1987.

When this guy first came out every kid on my block wanted one. The commercial was awesome too. I vaguely remember a kid hiding behind a couch and springing this monster on his sister and saying "GRRRRRR!". Of course she jumps out of her skin. 80s commercials were wonderfully non pc.

Kids today might not like them because: They don't have any contemporary tie ins with a cartoon and they can't compete with Robosapien.

Kids today might like them because: Though they don't offer high tech wizardry they do have break away handcuffs and can make any kid feel like they've got a scary, strong monster pet all their own.

Bugsy's Club Tournament

Thursday night I entered a Bugsy's Club free roll no limit hold em tournament. Out of the 450 that entered I came in at 131st. Not horrible but I had a few really bad beats. Trip Queens fell against not one, but two hands that split the pot.

I was the short stack for a while until some good double up opportunities presented themselves. After a few of those I busted out the chip leader. He obviously didn't respect my tight play!

I went out with a pair of jacks against Aces but all in all it was a very good tournament.

Appologies

My appologies to anyone who has come back to catch this weeks Toys of Our Lives. I haven't been able to get a solid chunk of time online to put one up.

This weeks Toys of Our Lives will be up by tommorrow, a mere and paltry sum of two miniscule days late.

In the mean time check out my inspiration for Toys of Our Lives, Wil Wheaton's Games of Our Lives column at The Onion AV Club and one of the most awesome 80s themed blogs ever.

George W.

I just want to go on record saying George W. Bush is an idiot. A greedy, money grubbing, trodding on the down trodden phoney of a president.

I would also like to say I have never voted for any member of the Bush family and I wont even listen to the band Bush because Geroge W. is so damn dumb.

Let me just add I believe Reagen did a better job and I didn't like him either.

Bush, you are a greedy idiot.

Transporter 2

medium_transporter2.jpgThere are some very good reasons to see the Transporter 2. First off the movie was a great action film with nearly impossible action sequences that really shock you when they're pulled off. It takes Transporter style a step further.

The black Audi in the film is awesome looking and I am not a huge car fan so that is saying something and the fight scenes are inventive and outright deadly looking.

Frank Martin (Jason Statham) gets super inventive with a fire hose and kicks the shit out of about 10 guys by himself with one. This sort of ass whooping happens throughout the film and every fight is stylishly brutal.

Other action sequences are done equally well though some are so far fetched that you might find yourself rolling your eyes but loving it anyway.

And while the plot does involve protecting a small innocent child, our hero Frank has no problem beating the crap out of would be attackers in front of him so there's no fear of a castrated Vin Diesel in a family setting with this film.

I give it an A-

Need another reason to go see it?

Herbie Fully Loaded

Originally posted on blogspot on Thurs. Aug 18th.

Have you ever seen a movie and just wanted to cry with joy?

If not Herbie Fully Loaded is the film to do it in. I saw this somewhat older movie at the cheap theater tonight. 4.50 tickets. Me and Lucia chose seeing it over Cinderella Man which just looked kind of gay.

I am really happy we caught it. There are few movies that have made me feel the way this film did. I dunno if it was that we were at the old theater me and my mom used to go to when it offered the newest movies. I dunno if it was finally spending some time with just my girlfriend without having any friends there as we seem to have had so much lately (this is a good thing really but sometimes it's good to be alone!)

It was probably a mix of these things and one damn good Herbie film that did it. I watched the old Herbie movies and it was great to see him in action again.

Herbie Fully Loaded is not a movie that must be seen on the big screen. However that's how I like them best. If you don't want to spring for tickets and you don't have a cheap theater there I highly recommend renting it and watching it with a loved one or on your own.

Herbie Fully Loaded may just bring a joyful tear to your eye and a smile to your jaded heart.

Home Games That Help

medium_homegame.2.jpg
The Seattle Poker Open is doing an awesome thing to raise money for Hurricane Katrina relief. Home Games That Help is the League Director Trevor Trifiro's brainchild in which members of the SPO host home games and donate all winnings to Americares.

It is legal in Washington to hold poker games in homes (as it should be in every damn state, this is AMERICA right!?) so this is an excellent and legal way of raising money for this extremely important cause.

Members who host a game will also be given 25 points in the division of their choice and winners of these tournaments will be given 100. Games will be announced on our new forums.

So far it is looking like a $20 buy in will be the norm but that is only suggested. Trevor predicts that we can easily raise about $5000 within just a few games.

He is also putting his money where his mouth is. Donating 105% of everything that comes in. (He is matching 5% of the total raised personally.)

If you live in the North West and love Poker this is a great way to play some cards, talk with interesting people and raise money for your fellow Americans in their greatest time of need.

Games You Can't Lose

medium_cantlose.jpgI just started reading this old book by Harry Anderson of Night Court fame. If you remember that show he was always doing cheesy magic tricks and loved Mel Tormei.

Games You Can't Lose is an awesome book and has a noticable lack of cheesy tricks.

Instead it has some of the greatest street games (AKA Cons) and swindles of our time. It exposes those ridiculous carnival game rip offs as well.

Games You Can't Lose calls itself A Guide for Suckers but with this con artist wisdom you'll be well defended against those with small hands or the fat guy who wants to flip coins for hot dogs.

I should also mention this book can be used for evil. And that makes it even more appealing.

The cons in the book are semi-honest and take advantage of the unsuspecting one who accepts the charlatan's challenge.

Excerpt from the back:

Here, told in Harry's notoriously sly style, are bets, games, tricks, cons, stunts and bald-faced lies that you can perpetuate for yuks and bucks. Harry will show you-yes even you-how to pull off such astounding feats as Winning Free Drinks From Under A Hat, Removing Your Vest Without Removing Your Coat, the Dollar Bill Swindle and Heaving a Pumpkin Over A Three Story Building...

This book is available at Amazon.com for about 5 bucks used. I picked my copy up at a used bookstore for $3.50 and I think I'll make it pay for itself...

4,600 Year Old Trees

Bristlecone pines are the oldest trees on earth. Taking on a ghostly image of short gnarled ancient wood.

The following is from sonic.net/bristlecone:

"Colossal Bristlecone Ghost"

Bristlecones have the ability to remain standing for centuries after death. Invasions from bacteria, fungus or insects that prey upon most plants, are unknown to the bristlecone due to their dense, highly resinous wood. The dry air common in the subalpine region can kill by desiccation, but also helps preserve the trees from rotting. When the tree eventually falls it is because the supporting roots finally decay or are undermined by erosion. This ghost is located on the northwestern limit of Schulman Grove and overlooks the snow covered Sierra Nevada to the west.

medium_oldtree2.jpg This tree is located on the east side of Patriarch Grove at 11,200 ft. of elevation, is one of the most picturesque of all bristlecones in the White Mts.

The winds can be extreme at this location, and the day this image was taken, they were blowing at a steady 50 mph. Standing alone in a field of dolomite one can only guess at how many seasons it has endured. One thing is certain - it will be here long after we living today have passed on.

"Along Methuselah Walk"

These trees located in Methuselah Grove are on a steep slope and in an area where trees reach 3000 - 4000 years of age. Very old trees are typically squat and gnarled, with many dead branches and large areas of exposed wood. In this grove, scientists have found several pieces of deadwood lying on the ground for more than 7000 years!
