Games You Can't Lose
I just started reading this old book by Harry Anderson of Night Court fame. If you remember that show he was always doing cheesy magic tricks and loved Mel Tormei.
Games You Can't Lose is an awesome book and has a noticable lack of cheesy tricks.
Instead it has some of the greatest street games (AKA Cons) and swindles of our time. It exposes those ridiculous carnival game rip offs as well.
Games You Can't Lose calls itself A Guide for Suckers but with this con artist wisdom you'll be well defended against those with small hands or the fat guy who wants to flip coins for hot dogs.
I should also mention this book can be used for evil. And that makes it even more appealing.
The cons in the book are semi-honest and take advantage of the unsuspecting one who accepts the charlatan's challenge.
Excerpt from the back:
Here, told in Harry's notoriously sly style, are bets, games, tricks, cons, stunts and bald-faced lies that you can perpetuate for yuks and bucks. Harry will show you-yes even you-how to pull off such astounding feats as Winning Free Drinks From Under A Hat, Removing Your Vest Without Removing Your Coat, the Dollar Bill Swindle and Heaving a Pumpkin Over A Three Story Building...
This book is available at Amazon.com for about 5 bucks used. I picked my copy up at a used bookstore for $3.50 and I think I'll make it pay for itself...
